The Ministry of Inner -City and Zongo Development (MICZD) has set up an eight-member team to kick start the process of screening applications in the Arabic Instructors Programme to engage 3,000 Arabic instructors to teach Arabic at the basic education level across the Zongo communities in the country.
The team, led by the Director of Social Services at the Zongo Ministry is working assiduously to offer letter of appointment to Imams who teach Arabic in Islamic schools in the Zongo communities across the country.
Briefing the media after a session of the team’s work at the Ministry last week, the director said the challenge is that the numbers are overwhelming.
However, the team will ensure that the teachers are engaged in every district of the country to ensure fair distribution and allocation.
She said since the Ministry announced the date for the engagement of the instructors on its online portal, it has received over eighteen thousand applications across the country online in addition to some hard paper applications submitted to the Islamic education units in all regions.
The team has already inputted the hard paper applications before the screening started.
The Director said that the Northern Region has the highest number of applicants, 5,687 and Western North Region with the least applicants with 50.
She noted that there are over two thousand applicants from the Tamale Metropolitan area in the Northern Region alone.
She was hopeful that the team will be able to complete the screening for an orientation to be organized for the applicants to enable them to assume their roles beginning in September 2020.
The Director explained that so far, the screening exercise has been able to remove the people who applied without any background knowledge in Arabic teachings.
The orientation will prepare the coordinators for the job to assist the Ministry to engage the district heads for the roll-out of the programme.
She gave the assurance after everything is done and approval given, engagement letters will be issued to successful applicants.
She further explained that the team is working hard to have the applicants engaged for the roll-out of the programme as soon as practicable and also to assure fairness in the regional and district distribution of the instructors.
